De Pooter Personnel Services: Think before you talk
De Pooter Personnel Services: Think before you talk
What do you get when you put two matchmakers in a virgin territory? One guy from Brabant, the other from Rotterdam, and they are working for a company in Zeeland! Loose cannons? Absolutely not. On the contrary, the best match starts with themselves.
'Honestly? I don't see much of a difference between people from Zeeland and Brabant', says Jeroen Blonk (41), business manager at De Pooter West-Brabant. 'Zeeuws-Vlaanderen with its Michelin star restaurants is no less exuberant than Brabant. Maybe the people in Zeeland are a bit more reserved. I come from Rotterdam myself. "Just get on with it", is what we say.' Bastiaan van Aert (22) is grinning. The junior intermediary, who grew up in Prinsenbeek in Brabant, says: 'We are more open, easier going. But neither of us like endless discussions. After a good consultation, you have to make decisions and go for it, that's what we both believe in.'
And they certainly go for it. The two staff members of De Pooter Personnel Services are now in virgin territory in the province of Brabant. For the first time in 65 years, geographical boundaries are crossed and the first steps are taken on West-Brabant soil. So this is very exciting. And hugely challenging. 'Yes, a new start for the company and for us as a team', Jeroen explains enthusiastically. 'Wherever you work, you have to give something back. We are now investigating the cultural world within the region. When you want to attract local clients, you have to get to know them. And vice versa, of course. So we go out, explore the market, and find the connection. This was also the reason, last year, to become a member of Regio Business. Networking results in brand recognition and an investment in relationships. Through this new step, it is a very important and welcoming factor.
Not writing anybody off
The active involvement was what motivated Bastiaan to come and work for De Pooter. It felt like coming home, as he describes his start with the company which has about 30 employees in total. 'De Pooter delivers on what it promises, I have that experienced myself', he says. 'They didn't just look at my diplomas, but also to who I am and what my strengths are. In the field, we do the same thing.' This leads to surprising matches. For example, a man of 65 with a technical background who, after his retirement, didn't want to spend his days at home. After a few interesting conversations, he now works for De Pooter on a project base. 'He is a kind of mentor for younger people who are exploring the world of technique', says Jeroen. 'People rave about his knowledge and experience. First of all, we go for drive and motivation and don't write anyone off after a first glance. You shouldn't look at age, background, and cultural diversity as obstacles; real potential is not always visible on paper. We inspire people to search their boundaries and broaden their career options. You can always learn special skills.
Personal approach at all times. Even when many processes are robotised. This is typical of their approach. And they don't mind if this takes some time and energy. Because you need to invest in quality and sustainability. The driven match makers bring job seekers and companies in the technology sector together, whereby marketing and recruitment go hand in hand with a focus which is clearly not on people working a day here and a day there. 'That's right, we are not just a job agency that wants to make money fast', explains Bastiaan. 'You can see us as a tool to match two parties for the long term and in the best possible way.
In addition to the insight in the technology branch with all its different aspects, the work is also about chemistry. 'Look at Bastiaan and me', says Jeroen suddenly. 'There is quite an age gap between us and we have completely different backgrounds. I could have sat here with someone of my own age. But some of our differences are the reason why we are such a good match. I admit that I had to get used to his fresh and bold ideas. But it showed that they often hit the bull's eye. Bastiaan, in turn, is happy with Jeroen's feedback. For example about communication. 'Think before you talk', says Bastiaan. 'Besides that, Jeroen is very knowledgeable about technique. This allows us to have a more in-depth response to our clients' wishes and requirements. Having a thorough understanding of the issues makes them well prepared to tackle them. Also in the industrious West-Brabant where there are great opportunities waiting for promising matches.
The two-headed team does not just stand out in their advising and supporting of personnel, but also of companies. Such as creating an iron-cast profiling in the market. 'For companies, the time of leaning back and waiting for the right personnel to show up is over', Jeroen knows. 'We match well-trained technical staff with the most suitable employer. But chemistry works both ways. Employers also need to market themselves more attractively. Why would someone come and work for you? Present yourself and show why you deserve the best staff. We gladly help companies in doing this. That's also one of our tasks.'
